Connor Schlegel is a 22 year old broadcast journalism student at West Virginia University with a minor in political science. He has aspirations of working as a television news correspondent, focusing on world news and politics.
A resident of Winchester, Virginia, he grew up as an avid WVU sports fan. After a year of reporting for his high school newspaper as a sports writer, Connor graduated Sherando High School in 2013 and was accepted into the Reed College of Media. He is expected to graduate in May of 2017.
Connor formerly served an internship as the WVU football and mens’ basketball beat writer for EerSports.com, where he covered live sporting events and coach’s press conferences. He also wrote weekly articles focused on relevant WVU sports topics throughout the year.
After making the switch from sportswriting to political coverage, he declared his minor in political science. He then spent time as a local news correspondent and the Student Government Association beat writer for the student-run newspaper, The Daily Athenaeum. His article topics ranged from panhandling in downtown Morgantown, covering student discussion panels focused on consent & sexual assault prevention, to breaking down how elected officials in West Virginia were voting during the 2016 presidential election.
