Each week, the Best of the Rest section features student work from WVU News not included in the final newscast.

The Morgantown City Council unanimously decided to invest in an emergency alert system that city officials and MECCA 911 will control. Reporter Emily Swecker found out how much the system will cost annually and how it will reach more residents more efficiently than before.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has been able to deliver more than 124 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children worldwide, and this year, they are hoping to bring even more smiles, just in time for Christmas.
