Fun Fact: Shayla’s favorite movie is the Wizard of Oz and she collects the 14-book series.
Shayla Klein is a TV Journalism student who is expected to graduate in May of 2019 with minors in Interactive Media Design and Theater. Along with being a Teacher’s Assistant for WVU News, Shayla is also the Digital Media Producer for U92 News.
Shayla is not afraid to go first. Last year, she was among the first students to produce 360 video stories for WVU News. She was also among the first journalism students to go to China with the Reed College of Media. Not to mention, she pioneered Instagram and Facebook profiles for U92 News. Shayla loves experimental media and hopes to use her problem solving skills and creativity in future jobs.
Shayla is from Wheeling, West Virginia and began taking journalism classes in high school. She was a part of a completely student run weekly newscast, where she was the In-Studio Guest Anchor. It was there that she discovered her love for the field. Since then, she interned at WTOV-9 in Steubenville, OH, West Virginia Public Broadcasting in Morgantown, WV, and internationally in Guangzhou, China.
Shayla is an award-winning journalist. She was a regional finalist in Radio News Reporting for the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award. She won second place for Best Radio Event Coverage from the College Media Association.
