Newscast #1 - Tannor Enyart - Spring 2024
For the first show, there is always going to be anxiety and anticipation to get down to the Waterfront studio and see how everything will play out. I was excited to see how things were going to run. On Monday, we had our anchor rehearsal meetings and again on Tuesday for another run-through.
I
enjoy the group of anchors we work with; I think we all work well together. There
has not been a time when we’ve met and laughter hasn't been involved.
Something that connects us is the fact that we are all driven to be better
anchors and broadcasters.
The work we put in on Monday and Tuesday allowed us to come in prepared
and confident on Wednesday to tape our first show. Having Kathryn as one of our
main anchors has been a huge advantage to the rest of us. She’s been in the class
before and knows how a newsroom is run. We’re able to ask her questions to better
understand where we can improve and what is expected of us.
Ty, our legislative reporter, is someone I have spent a lot of time with here at
WVU. It’s become somewhat of a ritual for us at WVU Men’s Basketball games to talk
beforehand. I am usually sitting in Press Row with the media outlets and he
is a Maniac leader for the WVU student section. So, I go down to visit him.
We usually discuss what’s going to happen in the game.
Down at the Waterfront, we have a similar tradition with our main anchors, Claudia
and Kathryn. Ty and I have some time to discuss and run through things before
the shows, and we try to hype each other up. He was a hero for me during show one,
bringing Mountain Dew Zero to make sure I kept my energy levels high.
I also have Drew, our Assistant Director, to keep my sharp. He would come out from the sound booth between takes to hype everyone up. I made a few mistakes when we were filming this week but it is a huge advantage to be surrounding by such a supportive crew at WVU News. This is something I don’t think I quite anticipated coming into this semester. Professor Dahlia and Professor Mara are there to lean on for advice during shows and throughout the week, but they are also there for us to help with issues outside of class. It’s support like this that makes balancing day-to-day challenges easier and all the effort worth it.
After finishing show one, I’m excited to continue working on what we've begun this semester! There are a lot of stories to tell here at and around W.V.U. As we near the end of the winter season of sports, that means that baseball season is coming. All while reporting on the Big 12 tournaments!
