The goal of this class is to teach you how to produce, gather and report news for a top 25 TV market-TV Station-KDKA-TV, a statewide broadcast network-West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB), HD Media- HD Media is the publisher of the following seven newspapers in the state: Charleston Gazette-Mail, Herald-
Dispatch, Wayne County News, Logan Banner, Williamson Daily News, Coal Valley News and The Pineville
Independent Herald, the City of Morgantown’s Public Access Channel, a statewide broadcast news service(Nexstar Broadcasting), and a national sports network (ESPNU)

This classroom will be run as an actual “newsroom.” You will all be assigned beats, we will have regular news meetings and you will report to us as your “news directors.” You will learn every aspect of what it takes to put together a newscast. From choosing stories in your beat, to shooting, editing, writing and producing those stories and finally, you will all serve as the talent and/or technical crew during the actual taping of the newscast. You will also have a professional Twitter account and learn to use social media to promote your work.
During the Spring 2020 semester, the newscast will air on Sundays at 12:30 p.m. and Mondays at 1:30 p.m. on the following dates:
You can also watch "WVU News" at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday- Friday and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday following each newscast taping on Comcast Channel 15 and 1084 in Morgantown as an extension of a partnership between the City of Morgantown and the WVU Reed College of Media.
