Round 2. That’s what happened this week, I had my second chance at being on set. I felt more prepared, less nervous, and just ready to go.
It was Monday, when we had to come in, do the final edits on our packages, that I found out one of the JRL 386 classes were going to attend the show this week. So to say that didn’t heighten the nerves, would be a lie. I didn’t want to mess up drastically and show these up-and-coming “broadcast brats” what NOT to do. First run through wasn’t bad all together, but went in to do our second take and?. THE FIRE ALARM GOES OFF.
Yes, you read that right. The fire alarm went off in the middle of the second take. We all had to evacuate and head over to the rail trail – which set us back 45 minutes. But we persevered and made it through! Our final take was an amazing take and we kept it! My package didn’t make show this week, but I got to lead into another great package done by Ashley Rogers.
My package was on WVU’s offense and how they have helped the Mountaineers get to a 6-1 start. Getting to be on the field against TCU, was honestly a dream come true. I got to experience the game RIGHT THERE but got to do something I’ve always wanted to do. It’s just another great perk of being a sports reporter. But now that there’s only two home games left, and I’m starting to realize our semester is coming to an end.
That was our fourth newscast as a group, and 7th overall; we only have one taping left together. It’ll be our special edition show – something you won’t want to miss. But it makes me sad to think about. A lot of the great people I’ve worked alongside with, been with almost every single day, all day. Will graduate this semester. It’s a mark that I’m halfway to graduation!
Enough with the sad talk – let me get to my next piece. Make sure to tune in to watch our last taping together.
