Newscast #4- Isaac Ferebee- Fall 2017

It seemed like so long ago the last time I was on set as the Sports Anchor for WVU News. Throughout the week at times it was frustrating preparing for show, but the end result was rewarding.

After watching the show, I felt like you could not only see the difference in myself from the first show, but I also felt like everyone on set improved just compared to show three. Being able to finish taping in as many as three takes was jaw dropping. Seeing Professor Dhalia walk into the studio with a smile and saying “That’s it, we’re done” almost seemed like a dream, but it is truly only a testament to our growth as a class. The class has made everyone better, and you saw it reflect on set. On set as far as talent, everyone read well with energy, and it is not just the people on set improving. We saw a flawless show from our producer and director as well. Our floor director cued us with perfect timing, and that all starts in the control room.

Personally I felt a lot comfortable compared to the first time. Instead of going into the show guessing what it would be like, I actually knew what to expect and I felt like I delivered. After seeing show one and seeing my eyes rapidly move back and forth, I noticed that I looked as though I was reading off of a teleprompter. This time I made consistent eye contact with the news anchors, and was able to keep my eyes focused throughout the three-shot. It was something that I told myself I wanted to do better, and felt like I did.

I also wanted to improve on displaying my charisma which were in the show one recap notes. After a dry first recording, I was able to bounce back and give the energy that was needed to finish the segment.

Was I too excited at times? Maybe, looking back I wish I would not have moved my hands as much. Other than that it was an overall satisfying feeling.

Now as far as my package? It was extremely rewarding. I had the pleasure of interviewing WVU super fan, Charles Hayes. Hayes became a viral sensation amongst Mountaineer nation over night, and after messaging him on twitter he was nothing but a joy to work with. Following him around and watching him dance was great, but for the first time in the class I felt like I had an interview that turned into a conversation, and that made it fun.

Leading up to the interview, the week was stressful. Having the two football players I requested for interviews did not show, my original story idea also fell through. It was turning into a nightmare, and then Charles hayes to the rescue. His personality and energy made for a great story, and I was glad I had the pleasure of interviewing him.
