The show must go on… so they say. After about an hour of technical difficulties we had to postpone taping our special edition show to a later date. It was a little disappointing but that’s what happens sometimes and this industry you sometime have to roll with the punches.
Our special edition show is titled Gun Control: A Nation Divided so all of our stories talking about the gun debates going throughout the country. I may be biased here but all of the stories are really well done it’s obvious how much we all have learned throughout the year in creating stories.
My story was focused on a familiar face around the WVU Athletic Department. Stedman Bailey nearly lost his life back in 2015 when he took two bullets to the head. Doctors weren’t sure if he would ever walk again or even be able to speak clearly but he beat the odds and has made a recovery and is actually cleared to play football again by his doctors. Just last October he had another surgery to install a titanium plate in his head that is harder than a human skull. He appropriately refers to himself as the “man of steel.”
Stedman was back in Morgantown for Pro Day and worked out for dozens of NFL scouts and performed pretty well in my opinion. If you didn’t know about what had happened there were no signs that he had ever been gone from the game.
His story is an amazing one for sure and it was a honor to be able to listen to him speak about his recovery along with his take on the gun violence that has happened recently. My story was already picked up by ESPNU and can be found here.
The show will eventually go on and I can’t wait for everyone to see it. There is no doubt it will continue the rich history of WVU News and bring home a plethora of awards for our 25th anniversary.
