Newscast #5 - Chris Marzullo - Spring 2019

Anchoring the fifth newscast was something heading into it I knew would be the best one yet. My story package turned out very good, and was even picked up by ESPNU the day before taping this newscast, so I already had some extra confidence going in. I have noticed a tremendous amount of improvement in the work I have put forth lately, and that is largely thanks to Professor Dahlia and producer, Ian Miller. They both have taken my conferences very seriously and have given me detailed feedback every single time, and after some mistakes everything lately has finally been clicking. I am by no means an expert, but I am now very confident when assigned an event to cover, that I can come through time and time again because of the work I have put in over the last few weeks.

As far as the actual taping of the fifth show went, it went as well as it possibly could have even without Professor Dahlia there. She is like our security blanket that we all lean on and trust when we don’t have an answer to a question, and she’s always right there whenever we need help with something. However, Whitney Godwin filled in nicely and she was as helpful as ever, and did the best she could to fill in for Professor Dahlia, and she did a fantastic job.

As far as my actual story package went, I covered the WVU Football spring practice and updated viewers on how the offseason has been going so far for the boys in gold and blue. I loved covering this, and it was something I was very excited to cover heading in. I did however run into some troubles when putting my story package together which included not being able to use any footage that had music playing in the background, which happened very frequently, as well as not being able to use any footage on days that it rained because I can’t cover a practice and use half of the footage with rain and half without rain, because it wouldn’t make any sense.

Overall, I am really starting to love being a reporter and an anchor. At first it was something that stressed me out until I almost drove myself insane, and it took me a while to get the hang of it. But, now that I finally seem to be putting together good content, I could finally take a deep breath, pat myself on the back, and know that this is something I can be successful at, and I have Professor Dahlia and Ian Miller to thank for their help, patience, and assistance with me. Our final show, episode six, will have a theme, and what I will be covering is still kind of up in the air, so please stay updated on my WVU News Twitter account @ChrisMWVUNews! I hope you enjoyed watching this fifth newscast; if you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet then please do!
