Newscast #3 - Eden Douglas - Spring 2021
I am an avid baseball fan and in 2020 when everything was shut down, I was extremely devastated. Working in sports has allowed me to come even closer with the game, and I was so disappointed when I did not get to work games. I can only imagine how it was for the athletes and especially the seniors.
The NCAA offered an extra year of eligibility to all spring athletes. WVU Baseball’s third basemen, Kevin Brophy, decided to take the extra year of eligibility because he said he knew this year’s team was going to be something special. Brophy was a part of the 2019 team who hosted an NCAA regional, and he said that this year’s team could be just as successful. He was also named collegiate baseball player of the week, and shortly after, the program was put on pause for seven days due to positive corona virus cases. Coach Sabins and Kevin Brophy say they are looking forward to getting over this rocky patch because they know they can make a difference in Mountaineer baseball program history.
A HUGE shoutout to Bob Huggins on his 900 the career win! A thank you to our other SportsAnchor, Kiersten Lindvist, who covered this monumental milestone.I was able to go to a baseball game and shoot my own b-roll this week.
I was a one-man band filming this package, and it allowed me to learn so much about future packages. Setting up my own camera, making sure all the connections were right on my mic, and framing myself in the camera was a challenge, but it helped me grow as a journalist. I am so happy with my sports block this week!
