Newscast #3 - Ian Miller - Spring 2019
Episode 3 is in the books. The last two weeks have been fantastic for the WVU News crew. Our reporters have worked extremely hard to put together their stories for everyone to see. I can’t put into words how impressed I am with everyone. From just episode 1 to now is a night and day difference.
Through the previous week I had been keeping up with the stories our reporters were working on. Our Data/Viz reporter Shayla Klein had an especially difficult job with reporting on the Campus Carry bill that was making its way through the West Virginia legislature. While she was doing research, a rally broke out on Thursday, February 28th. Shayla was right on the scene and reported from the rally. In our episode, you can see plenty of footage of her from the rally, including interviews.
While I was really impressed with Shayla, that takes nothing away from our other reporters. All of our packages that made show were strong and it makes the rest of our jobs easy to accomplish. From the script to our digital playback to everything in between, everything went smoothly for our newscast.
In the control room for our taping, John Lowe once again did a great job as our director. John takes command and makes sure the whole show runs smoothly while I take care of our anchors. Speaking of our anchors, they again are improving at a high pace. They all have a high ceiling with their potential and continue to make strides in their reporting and on set anchoring.
We expect the improvement to continue into the next newscast. Until then, it’s our Spring Break. We’ll see you all on our next episode.
