Newscast #6 - Ian Miller - Spring 2019
Our last show. What a ride.
It doesn’t feel like this semester has already ended. It feels like show two was just a couple days ago.
Immediately once episode five ended, everyone was right back to work on their next stories. To be honest, I wouldn’t say this was our smoothest run for our stories. People ran into a myriad of issues and it didn’t seem as if everyone was in sync. It felt as if everyone was gassed from the entire semester. We did pull together some solid packages when all was said and done, though.
Once packages were done, it was script time. This script was the smoothest to put together that I’ve done. I like to think I’m getting good at this.
On Monday before the show, our content that made show goes through their final tweaks. In the evening, I met with my anchors to do our run-through and rehearse how we wanted our show to go. We actually went outside to do our final run through because it was so nice out. I think it made everyone feel more relaxed.
Show day. Our director John Lowe and I are constantly trying to make our last minute adjustments. Compared to last time, these adjustments were not near as overwhelming. Only a few minor adjustments were made. We felt good and confident with how the show is going to go. Truly, it went almost as planned. Almost.
I can’t say the control room had everything going smoothly. Our new graphics had some trouble, they missed a couple of things and had issues running our bumpers. Anchors, though, did fantastic. I could not have asked for them to do a better job. Especially Carly, as she was sick for our taping.
As our time together comes to a close, I’m thankful I had the opportunity to be producer of WVU News. It’s been a privilege, to say the least. I’m going to miss every single person in our newsroom; they have made this experience something I will never forget.Thank you all for watching our shows. It’s been a pleasure bringing our content into your homes.
We will see you soon.
